Tony and David Williams
Hello, I’m Tony Williams. Together with my brother David and some expert help from renowned guest brewer – David Harris, we set up the Ryedale Brewing Company though a shear passion for Fine Ales.
From our home (then in West Yorkshire) my brother and I were keen ‘Home Brewers’, a hobby we enjoyed for over six years, after which time we decided to turn our pastime into a family business. We originally planned a very small two-barrel operation, but after some deliberation, opted for a more substantial four-barrel set-up. Once the decision was made, we decided we needed a more suitable location… the garden shed and the fact we lived on a steep hill in Oxenhope was not ideal!
Setting up the Ryedale Brewing Company
Over the years, our family has enjoyed many a visit to the beautiful North York Moors. With amazing scenery, quaint villages tucked away in valleys and an abundance of traditional country pubs and eateries, we thought we would make this much-loved location home for ourselves and our new business.
So, David sold his Milk Round Business, gave up his Gardening Services and together with our mother, we all moved to North Yorkshire, just east of the historic City of York and within the boundary of the area known as Ryedale. The area is so beautiful we felt privileged to find an ideal property with enough space to site the brewery.
We called on the valuable help of David Harris – our guest brewer and friend from ‘Bronte Country’. David steered us in the right direction and under his supervision we set about brewing our first Ales in the York area.
The Ryedale Brewery Ales became a favourite in many established public houses across North Yorkshire.

Quality and Consistency is Everything
In 2016 we took a bold move and returned back towards our roots. We relocated the Ryedale Brewing Company to Cross Hills, between Skipton and Keighley.
We have developed a selection of Ales which we now feel are consistent in flavour, colour, clarity and quality. Our Ales, in our opinion, are as close to perfection as we can possibly get and we now brew on a regular, consistent basis.
The Six Ales we currently brew; Pale, Gold, Bitter, Stout, Ryedale Rambler and Ryedale Angler are now on-tap in various Fine Ale Pubs and Restaurants. Feedback from landlords, proprietors (and most importantly) customers, is excellent.
If you would like to talk to us, with the possibility of adding our Ales to your selection of drinks for sale, we would be delighted to hear from you. We would be more than happy to visit you and bring samples. Simply get in touch via our contact form.
